Dear Friends,

It seems that the first question on everyone’s mind is about Hurricane Beta. Well, Beta hit hard on the east coast of Nicaragua and appeared to be aimed directly at Managua. However, after making landfall she lost most of her power and was hardly felt on our side of the country. We were anticipating wind and rain sometime in the night on Sunday, October 30th. It started to rain around 11:00 p.m. but it never amounted to anything. We’ve had far worse rainfalls numerous times throughout this past rainy season as you can see in the picture. In fact, we’ve had so much rain and it has come down so hard that we’ve had a hard time getting the grass on the soccer field planted. We want to get it seeded while there is still enough moisture to get it established and before the hot temperatures and drying winds of the dry season settle in. Right now it’s hard to believe things will ever dry out. As we look across the soccer field it looks like we live on the waterfront of Lake Chiquilistagua. |

This past month included some wonderful times with special visitors. The month started with a visit from Jaime Straub, a young college graduate from our home church. She was here visiting and checking out ministry opportunities for her future. She attended and helped with the preschool and feeding programs and seemed to enjoy helping out in this capacity. Please pray that God would lead her in the direction of His will and that she will be open to hear and respond to Him. |

The last week of the month was highlighted with a visit from Halle’s parents, Jack and Fran August. We spent a wonderful week ‘vacationing’ with them and showing them the sights in and around Managua. They had an opportunity to catch the flavor of our lives down here, to see first hand what keeps us busy from day to day, and to experience some of the challenges that we face (like deeply rutted roads, power outages and loud, obnoxious music from
the neighborhood disco which happens to be located right next door to us!) All in all we had a great time together and we hope it won’t be our last opportunity to have them down here.

Ministry activities and classes continue at El Farito, our ministry center in Cedro Galan. Just this past month Tim Beldner, a young man living with us for the year, and Daniel Bain, a Manna Project member, started a boys Bible Club and are meeting twice weekly at the ministry center. They are studying some of the most basic principles of salvation, introducing them to God’s Word, and deepening their friendships with them as they pour out God’s love into the lives of these young boys. They are planting seeds that God will tend and grow in the years to come. A girls Bible Club is still in the works and will most likely start meeting after the start of the new school year in February.
Once again we will be in the northwest for the Christmas holiday and are looking forward to visiting with you. We will be up in the Bellevue/Woodinville, Washington area from December 5th through January 12th. We are so thankful to be able to spend the holiday season together with our sons and extended family that live in the area. We anticipate that it will be a time to relax with some of the comforts of home and an opportunity to renew our friendships and ties with our church family. Ideally we’d love to spend time with each and every one of you but time and busy schedules just won’t allow it. However, in an attempt to see and visit with as many of you as possible we’d like to invite you to a special evening of fellowship. We will be hosting “Nica Nite” on Thursday evening, December 8th, from 6:30 – 8:30 at our home church in Woodinville. We would like to invite you to share a little “Nibble of Nicaragua”, visit our “mercado” where you can do a little international Christmas shopping (a great place to shop for those unique folks on your gift list and to pick up some one-of-a-kind stocking stuffers), see and hear about our ministry activities past and future, and visit with us for a short time. We are planning to bring up a variety of Nicaraguan artisan items and some other interesting and unique third world knick-knacks that we hope you’ll enjoy buying for yourself or someone on your gift giving list. This small fund-raiser will support our ministry center programs – the feeding program, preschool and scholarship fund. We hope you will have fun supporting the ministry center programs in this way! Please put this date on your calendar and save this evening!

We thank God every time we remember you. In all our prayers for all of you we always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in us will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving with our American friends down here we will be remembering you all and giving thanks for your continuing friendship and support.
Serving Together,
Halle and Kathy August
